WASHINGTON, D.C. – George Mason senior second baseman
Marlaina Bozek was named an Atlantic 10 Postgraduate Scholarship Honoree,
the conference announced Wednesday afternoon. Bozek, along with 14 other A-10 honorees, will receive $5,000 which will go towards full-time enrollment in a postgraduate or professional program.
The prestigious award is given to one graduating student-athlete in each school in the conference. The Class of 2024 comprised of 11 female & four male student-athletes spanning across eight sports with a collective GPA of 3.74.
According to the conference: "To be considered for the Postgraduate Scholarship, student-athletes must have performed with distinction both in the classroom and in their respective sports throughout their career, while demonstrating exemplary conduct in the community."
Bozek is a three-time Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete, has appeared on the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll three times and was named a
2024 Peter N. Stearns Provost Scholar Athlete in March. She posted a 3.75 GPA this past semester and graduated last week with a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology.
The Washington, Pa., native will be applying to medical school later in the month with plans of graduating with a medical degree in 2029. She ultimately has aspirations of becoming an orthopedic surgeon.
On the field this season, Bozek was named the
Atlantic 10 Player of the Week on March 5. She started in all 52 games at second base and led the Patriots in batting average (.333) & on-base percentage (.405), as well as second in OPS (.831), at-bats (162), runs scored (26), hits (54 - career high), doubles (8), triples (2) and total bags (69).
As well as being part of the dynamic Patriot infield that turned the most double plays in the Atlantic 10, Bozek finished top 10 in the conference in multiple individual statistical categories at the end of the regular season. She was third in defensive double plays (15), sixth in hits (54) and 10
th in assists (90).
For her career, Bozek is in the George Mason Softball record books in the following all-time categories:
- 9th: Stolen bases (32, tied)
- 10th: Hits (166)
- 11th: Games Played (183), Games Started (180), Doubles (30, tied)
