Fairfax, Va.- The EIVA Weekly Awards have been swept by the Patriots with
Omar Hoyos being named the Offensive Player of the Week and
Colin Heath named as the Defensive Player of the Week. This is their first time receiving an EIVA Weekly award this season for both, first one in Colin's career and Omar's fourth time in his career receiving a weekly award.
Omar Hoyos had 15 kills on .565 hitting with an assist against Harvard in the first game. He also added an ace, three digs, and three blocks to extend the Mason winning streak. Against the same opponent in the next day, Omar had 13 kills and a career-high of seven aces. He was also important in the defensive area with eight digs, four blocks, and was 32 for 33 in service receptions.
Colin Heath was named Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career. In both games against Harvard, Colin was immense in both the offensive and defensive end. In the first game against the Crimson, Colin had eight kills with a .333 hitting percentage with three aces. Heath also had six digs and three blocks including one solo, he would continue his form the next day as well. On Saturday, Colin had 10 kills, .563 hitting percentage, an ace, three digs, and three blocks to solidify his name as the winner of the best defensive player in the EIVA Conference.
The Patriots will be back in action this weekend traveling to Pennsylvania to face against No. 8 Penn State. Mason are obligated to win both games to become the #1 seed and to have the benefit of hosting the EIVA Tournament at home, the undefeated RAC.
