Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |
Fairfax, Va.- No. 16 Mason continues their dominance on the court sweeping Harvard and extending their winning streak to 10 games. George Mason now has a conference record of 5-2 and remain in the fight with Penn State for the #1 seed.

The first set started with both teams going head-to-head in points until Harvard scored their 6th point to remain one point behind Mason. Mason extended their lead by scoring four unanswered points to have a 11-6 and they did not give up the advantage for the rest of the set. Another four consecutive points were scored with two kills and a block by Colin Heath to reach a seven-point lead. Later in the set, another four-point run by the Patriots helped reach 23 points. The AVCA National Player of the Week, Jack Bolz, had the last kill and secured the first set for the Patriots.

The second set was a roller coaster for the Patriots. Harvard came out with determination and secured an early 12-6 lead. Both teams then took turns scoring points and Hayden Karpinski was called into the game once it was 14-19. The super-sub, Hayden, helped Mason score three unanswered points including a service ace. The score was then 19-20 still in favor for the Crimson but it was a much closer game. The Patriots went on a last gasp run towards the end of the set scoring three consecutive points to reach the 25th point but Harvard was at 24. The game remained tied at 26-26 until Jack Bolz and Omar Hoyos got a kill each and ended the dramatic second set.

The Crimson had an early lead once again, attacking from all angles. Harvard reached a 5-0 lead and Mason were looking for ways to get back into the game. The Patriots found their rhythm and confidence to go on a seven-point run to not only pass Harvard, but also reach a comfortable lead of 11-7. Harvard were shocked and weren't able to get the lead back. Eamonn Testerman made his return to the court with a huge ovation by the crowd, ready to put in the defensive work. The final point was secured by Omar Hoyos and the Patriots remain undefeated at the RAC and are now 10 games unbeaten.

Quotable:
"It was a gritty win by our boys tonight", said head coach Jay Hosack. "Harvard is a good team and they took leads from us in games 2 and 3, but our boys showed a lot of heart and believed in each other. That was the real reason we persevered. Very proud of their efforts tonight."

By the Numbers:
  • Omar Hoyos led the team with 15 kills and Jack Bolz had 12
  • Jack Bolz had the most service aces with three tied with Colin Heath who secured the clutch ace to tie the game at 24-24 in the second set
