Fairfax, Va. – The George Mason Golf team will compete this weekend in the 2024 Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championships.
The three-day, 54-hole event will take place at the Evermore Orlando Resort's Cypress Course, April 26-28. Tee times will begin at 7:30 a.m. each day off both the 1st and 10th tees.
The Mason men's golf team finished eighth at the 2023 Atlantic 10 Championship. The team earned third place at the 2022 conference tournament, its best finish since joining the conference in 2013-14.
George Mason earned three Top 5 finishes this season, including second place honors at the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate. The Patriots began the fall season in third place at the Red Bandana Invitational. In the spring, the Patriots finished fifth at the Redhawk Invitational on the famed Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Place, Washington.
George Mason set the all-time scoring record in average score (290.76) and vs. par (4.76) this season.
The Patriots were led by senior
Nikita Gubenko with a 72.38 stroke average (1.00 vs par). The Great Falls, Va. native played in all 10 tournaments, leading the Patriots with seven Top 25 finishes, and tied with
Samir Davidov for low round, each recording a 67 at the Dayton Invitational.
Davidov, JJ Powell, and
Aryan Vuradi also played in all 10 tournaments.
Davidov was the team's second-leading player in stroke average (73.00), followed by freshman
Vijay Powell (73.14). The pair each earned five t-25 finishes.
Powell earned an Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week nod after he earned a second straight top 10 standing with a fourth-place finish, the best in his first collegiate year, at the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate. The Midlothian, Va., native helped the Patriots to its best finish of the season at the famed course in Williamsburg, Va.
Vuradi has a 75.24 stroke average heading into the championship. He finished in the top 25 twice, including ninth place at the Red Bandana Invitational to open the fall season.
Senior
Colin Slater was a steady competitor for the Patriots. He played in five tournaments and owns a 74.50 stroke average this season. The Austin, Texas native finished 11
th in the 2021 A-10 Championship.
