FAIRFAX, Va. - George Mason University men's basketball head coach Tony Skinn ('06) announced Wednesday that former Siena standout Giovanni Emejuru will compete for the Patriots beginning in 2024-25.
A dynamic, 6-foot-11-inch forward, Emejuru averaged 11.3 points and 6.3 rebounds as a junior for the Saints while shooting 56.8 percent (130-229) from the floor.
"Gio is a huge piece of what we need in the front court," Skinn said. "He has size, girth and the ability to score in the post. He had a great year last season and was one of the better bigs in the MAAC. More importantly, when Gio arrived on campus, it was evident that he had the type of energy we want in our program. We're thrilled to have him on board."
Emejuru started all 32 games for Siena this past season. He scored 10+ points in 19 games, including each of the last seven, and notched four double-doubles on the year. The Leicester, England, product also ranked third in the MAAC and 55
th nationally with 2.91 offensive rebounds/contest. He grabbed at least five offensive boards in seven games in 2023-24.
Emejuru spent the first two seasons of his collegiate career at Sam Houston State, where he saw action in 18 total games. He played 17 of those games as a sophomore, when he shot 71.4 percent from the floor.
As a high school student-athlete, he competed for Charnwood College in England and suited up for U18 Barking Abbey at the Euroleague adidas Next Generation Tournament held in Lithuania.
Emejuru is the first transfer portal addition for the Patriots so far this season. The Green & Gold also will welcome incoming freshmen Justin Begg (Houston, Texas) and Bryson Cokley (Whiteville, N.C.).
