Fairfax, Va. – The NCAA released the brackets and seeds for the 2024 NCAA Division I Men's Wrestling Championships that opens on March 21. The George Mason men's wrestling team will be represented by three individuals at the national tournament.

The Patriots DJ McGee (Stafford, Va./Bullis Prep), Evan Maag (Bethlehem, Pa./Notre Dame), and Malachi DuVall (Centre Hall, Penns Valley Area) earned automatic bids to compete at the NCAA Championships, March 21-23 in Kansas City, MO.

The last time the Patriots had three wrestlers qualify for the NCAA Championship was in 2018-19, with Tejon Anthony (149) Colston DiBlasi (149) and Matthew Voss (285).

All three are NCAA Qualifiers for the first time in the tournament. McGee is slotted as the No. 22 seed, while Maag is No. 29, and DuVall goes into the tournament in the No. 30 slot.

George Mason finished a program-best third place at the MAC championship, besting last year's sixth-place finish. Prior to 2023, Mason finished 11th the previous two seasons in the 13-team conference.

MASON NCAA QUALIFIERS
157 |
DJ McGee
McGee (24-5) has been the team's most consistent wrestler this season. Seeded #22 in the NCAA Championship, McGee earned one of the five NCAA allocations for the MAC with a second-place finish at the MAC Championship. McGee won two, 4-3 decisions, against Kent State's Keegan Knapp and Central Michigan's Johnny Lovett to advance to the championship. He was edged, 2-0, by #16 Peyten Keller from Ohio in the championship bout. He is ranked 23rd in the country and 19th in the RPI.  DJ has a win over the #3 wrestler in the country in the weight class. DJ has conference wins over #24 Lovett, #28 Colton Washleski (Rider), and #33 Herrera-Rondon (Clarion) with a close loss to #16 Keller, 3-0 during the regular season. McGee defeated Minnesota's Michael Blockhus, seeded No. 13 in the national tournament, earlier this season, 4-2. McGee will open the tournament pitted against Indiana's Brayton Lee, seeded No. 11.

165 | Evan Maag
Maag (27-9) punched his ticket to the NCAA Championship as a MAC Champion. The No. 3 seed pinned top-seeded Ohio Bobcat Garrett Thompson in 2:49 to earn his ticket to the NCAA Championship. The redshirt sophomore earned his way to the final with a 11-2 win over Hunter Shaut (Buffalo), and a 5-3 decision over Tyer Swiderski. Maag has won 15 of his last 17 matches, including three straight wins at the conference tournament. Maag finished the season in the top 10 in NCAA D1 Falls with 10 pins. Maag is seeded No. 29 and will battle David Carr from Iowa State in the first bout.

184 | Malachi DuVall
DuVall finished with a 18-10 record and earned his first selection to the NCAA Championship as a MAC Champion. The Centre Hall, Pa. native, upended top-seeded Cameron Pine from Clarion with an 7-4 decision in the 184-pound championship. Seeded sixth in the conference, DuVall earned a tech fall (15-0) win over Anthony Derosa (Bloomsburg) and a 6-4 decision to Zayne Lehman (Ohio) in the quarters and semis to take one of two allocations in the weight class. After getting off to a rough start to the season, the redshirt sophomore has gone 12-2 in 2024. Malachi is seeded No. 30 and will take on #3 Oklahoma State's Dustin Plott  (27-3) in the opening round.
