Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |
Fairfax, Va.- George Mason remains undefeated at the RAC with a sweep against Mount Olive. The head-to-head series is now 5-1 in favor to Mason. The first set was a fight until the end but the rest of the game went more smoothly.

The first set showed that the Trojans were ready to take down the Patriots. They kept the pace with Mason both teams exchanged turns on having the lead. The safest lead that each team had was two points and it went down to the wire. It seemed as if Mount Olive was going to cause an upset after reaching set point with the Patriots one point behind them. Omar Hoyos got a kill to extend the set and a ball handling error by Holden Maryott gave the Patriots a lead in a set that had to go extra points. The Trojans tied the game up four times showing persistence but Mason ultimately achieved the 30th and final point thanks to an attack error by Kory Grant.

Mason may have been shocked by the level of play shown by the Trojans, but they kept their composure to secure the second set. The crowd was loud and supportive with a season record of 534 people at the game. Mount Olive showed the same aggression as the first set and did not let Mason run away with the set. It was a one-point set until Mason turned on the gears and scored three consecutive points with Omar Hoyos scoring twice and a block by Jason Ashenfelter and Jackson Herbert. Mason had a 18-14 lead and reached set point with another three-point run. George Mason did struggle to achieve the 25th point, allowing the Trojans to score four consecutive points to add more suspense to the story. Omar Hoyos ended the set with a kill to secure the score line of 25-21 and handing Mason the second set.

It was a rocky start for the Patriots in the third with Mount Olive scoring five consecutive points to have an early 5-1 lead. Mason scored a few more points and when it was 7-3, that was when the Patriots locked in and scored six consecutive points. Colin Heath, Lucas Little, Omar Hoyos, and Georgi Zahariev scored the points to turn around the score and give Mason a more comfortable lead. Mount Olive were not giving up and went on a five-point run themselves to regain the lead of 14-12. It was a one-point game once again with a Lucas Little error to make it 19-20 in favor of Mason. Four of the next five points were scored by the Patriots to reach set point. Mount Olive still had hopes to extend the game, but with the pressure from the crowd, the Trojans gave away a service error to conclude the game.
