Fairfax, Va.— George Mason wrestling couldn't earn wins in the swing matches, dropping a dual match to the MAC leading Rider Broncs, 29-9, in a Sunday afternoon tilt inside the RAC.
The dual was the final MAC match for the Patriots (10-8, 3-4 MAC) before the conference championships, March 8-9 at Kent State. Rider improves to 6-6, 6-0 in the MAC.
After Rider got on the board with two straight bonus point wins, Mason's
Dominic Hargrove earned a sudden victory win at 141 pounds to get Mason on the board. Redshirt sophomore
Kaden Cassidy and Rider's #27 Quinn Kinner battled into the third period before points were scored. With under a minute to go in the third, Kinner earned an escape and a takedown to earn the close match, 5-0 at 149 lbs.
A nationally ranked match at 157 pounds was won by the Patriots #21
DJ McGee defeating the Broncs #29Colton Washleski. McGee earned the win with a takedown in the second period, earning the win 4-2. McGee, ranked second in the MAC's latest rankings, improves to 22-4, 5-1 in the MAC.
Mason's
Evan Maag and Jake Silverstein match at 165 pounds was a back-and-fourth battle, but the Broncs Silverstien prevailed 12-9 to extend the Rider lead to 17-6.
Redshirt sophomore Malach DuVall earned a sudden victory decision against the Broncs Isaac Dean, both top 5 ranked wrestlers in the MAC. DuVall has won six of his last seven matches, improving to 13-9.
