HOLLY SPRINGS N.C. – The Patriots dropped the final game of their four-game series against Purdue, 11-1, in seven innings on Sunday afternoon at Ting Stadium in Holly Springs, N.C.
Mason (2-6) took the lead against Purdue (6-2) senior starter Luke Wagner in the top of the first inning.

South Trimble led off with a triple to right field. After a walk to senior center fielder

Ben Jones delivered a RBI-single to right to put the Patriots in front, 1-0.

Chad Gartland kept the Boilermakers off the board over the first two innings. In the bottom of the second, he got escaped a bases loaded jam to keep Mason in the lead.
Purdue tied the game in the bottom of the third. Sophomore shortstop Camden Gasser led off with a walk and senior catcher Connor Caskenette singled. Freshman first baseman Luke Gaffney followed with a RBI-single through the right side of the infield to make it a 1-1 game.
In the bottom of the fifth, Gasser walked, Caskenette singled and Gaffney drove in the go-ahead run with a double to give the Boilermakers a 2-1 lead.
Mason sophomore
Owen Stewart entered the game in relief. Purdue sent 13 batters to the plate and scored 10 runs on eight hits in the inning for the eventual 11-1 final score.
For the Patriots, Gartland (1-2) allowed four runs on six hits in 4.0 innings. Stewart gave up seven runs on six hits and retired two batters in the fifth. Freshman

For the Boilermakers, Wagner (1-0) allowed one run on six hits over 5.0 innings. Senior Aaron Suval tossed 2.0 hitless innings.
