DAVIDSON, N.C. – Despite a double-double for
Ta'Viyanna Habib, the George Mason women's basketball team dropped a road contest to Davidson on the road, 75-67.
Habib dropped a team-high 18 points, including a career-high eight free throws, to go with a career-high 10 rebounds. She was one of four players in double-figures for the Patriots (19-5, 10-3).
It was all Mason in the first quarter, jumping out to an early 14-4 lead at the first media timeout. The Wildcats (18-6, 8-5) hit a three out of the break, but
Kennedy Harris hit six-straight free throws on three-straight possessions to push Mason ahead by 13 with 3:39 remaining. The teams traded points down the stretch and the Patriots held a 22-13 lead after the first.
Davidson locked down on defense, allowing just four points from the Patriots in the frame. The Wildcats opened the quarter hitting three-straight three pointers and adding a free throw to take their first lead of the game, one they would not surrender. Davidson held Mason to 0-10 from the three-point line over the second and third quarter while it hit 6-9 of its' own attempts as it led 58-46 after three.
The Patriots made a push in the fourth, hitting a team-high seven field goals, including three from deep. However, Davidson was able to go over 50% from the field to preserve its' lead en route to the victory.
