FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's basketball team will head to Davidson, N.C. for a midweek matchup with the Wildcats on Wednesday night.
 
George Mason and Davidson are set to meet for the 13th time in the series, with all 12 previous matchups coming as members of the Atlantic 10 and since 2015. The teams have been evenly matched, with both winning six games in the series after Mason won 79-41 in Fairfax last month. The Patriots are riding a three-game win streak over the Wildcats, including back-to-back games in EagleBank.
 
The last time out, both teams picked up Atlantic 10 road wins. Mason won for the first time in program history at Dayton, 74-50. The Wildcats won their third-straight game, beating Loyola Chicago on the road, 48-45.

  • On Monday, Zahirah Walton has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for the fifth time this season after averaging 12.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week for Mason
  • Sonia Smith leads the team with 14.7 points per game (7th, A-10) and is fifth in the Atlantic 10 with 15.6 points per game against conference opponents. She also leads the team with 3.1 assists per game (11th, A-10) 
  • The Patriots lead the A-10 with a 15.8-point scoring margin (25th nationally), 41.4 boards per game (32nd nationally), a 5.35 turnover margin (17th nationally) 
  • Mason is second in the conference with 72.3 points per game, in 3-point defense, allowing just 25.9% (13th nationally), and FG% defense at 36.6% (25th nationally)
  • Mason boasts one of the top benches in the country, currently sitting at 4th nationally with 33.3 bench points per game. Walton leads the way with a team-second-best 11.6 points per game
 
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
Davidson sits at 17-6 overall and 7-5 in Atlantic 10 play. The Wildcats began the season at 12-1, but since a win over La Salle to begin the new year, Davidson is just 5-5. However, the Wilcats have won their last three contests, including a gritty 48-45 road win over Loyola Chicago the last time out.
 
Four players average double-figure scoring for the Wildcats, however leader Suzi-Rose Deegan (13.3) has been out since Davidson played at Mason in January. Charlisle Dunn is second on the team with 12.7 points (15th, A-10), 6.1 rebounds (13th, A-10), 1.5 assists and 1.0 blocks per game. Dunn is also the team leader in steals with 30 total.
 
Millie Prior leads the team 7.6 rebounds (5th, A-10) and 2.0 blocks (3rd, A-10) per contest while contributing 10.2 points. Prior also ranks atop the Atlantic 10 in field goal percentage, hitting an incredible 57.5% of her attempts. Also on offense, Elle Sutphin averages 12.2 points per game. Issy Morgan remains one of the top three-point shooters in the conference, hitting 44.7% of her attempts (3rd, A-10) for 8.5 points per game. She also paces the offense with 3.4 assists per game (7th, A-10).
 
As a team, Davidson ranks third in the conference in scoring defense, allowing just 55.1 points per game (15th nationally). The Wildcats are second in the conference in blocks per game with 4.61 (35th nationally) to anchor their strong defense. On offense it is also third in the Atlantic 10 in field goal percentage, hitting 44.0% of its' shots.

The Patriots will play the second installment of the home-home series with rival George Washington on Saturday, Feb. 17. Tip-off from EagleBank Arena is set for 3 p.m.
