FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason University men's basketball team (8-4) dropped 50 points in the second half en route to a 85-53 triumph over Penn on Sunday afternoon inside EagleBank Arena.
The Patriots shot a blistering 63.3 percent (19-30) in that deciding second stanza while holding a 50-28 scoring advantage. GM shot 50.8 percent overall in the contest and made 9-of-18 3-pointers on the day.
A total of eight players scored at least six points for Mason and the Green & Gold held a sizable 48-21 edge in bench scoring for the game.
The win improved George Mason to 7-1 inside EagleBank Arena this season. It's the fourth 30+ point victory for the Patriots during the non-conference slate.
"These games right before Christmas can be set up games," head coach Tony Skinn ('06) said. "I've been on both ends of it and I thought these guys understood the assignment. I'll take a 32-point win at home any day."
GM held the Quakers to just 32.2 percent shooting on the night, despite Penn connecting on 10 3-pointers in the game.
Jalen Haynes was one five Patriots in double figures while notching a game-high 15 points to go with 10 rebounds. It marked his third double-double in the past four games and seventh-straight contest with at least 10 points.

Jared Billups notched 11 points to go with five rebounds in 32 minutes.

Darius Maddox dished out a career-best six assists and tallied 10 points while freshman
Justin Begg had his first double figure scoring day with 10 points (3-5 FG) in just 11 minutes.
GM held a 38-14 scoring advantage in the paint and turned 15 Quaker turnovers into a 19-4 edge in points off turnovers for the game.
George Mason wraps up the non-conference schedule with a home contest against Mt. St. Mary's on Saturday, December 28. Tip-off in Fairfax between the Patriots and Mountaineers is scheduled for 2 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
