Fairfax. Va.- George Mason has been selected to finish third in the 2025 EIVA Preseason Coaches Poll. The Patriots are only behind Penn State and NJIT, Penn State the unanimous choice to top the group once again.
Mason ended their 2024 season with an overall record of 18-10 and a conference record of 6-4 including an undefeated streak of 11 undefeated home games. The graduating seniors of 2024 left some big holes to fill in the squad (Omar Hoyos, Sam Peters, Jack Bolz, and Colin Heath) but the Patriots have prepared other players on the squad who are ready to step up to the challenge.
The US beach international, Jackson Herbert and redshirt junior Liam French have been selected as the 2025 EIVA players to watch. Jackson Herbert made a huge impact when he was named into the lineup. Played 32 sets from 12 matches and scored 92 points with 78 kills. Recorded a .329 hitting percentage, six service aces, 34 digs, and 10 blocks. Jackson also recorded a career high of 19 kills with three solo blocks against FDU (3/09) almost winning the EIVA offensive player of the week but fell short to John Kerr of Penn State.
Liam French has been working through an injury during the 2024 season but was still a huge piece to the Patriots offense when he was given the chance. Appeared in 51 sets and was 5th in the team for kills with 129. 4th in the team in service aces with 16, and recorded 30 digs and 16 total blocks. He had his best kill game on February 24th against Charleston with 22 kills.
George Mason starts off the 2025 season on the west coast for the second year straight at San Diego, California on January 14th against UC San Diego. The first home game is set to be played on January 23rd at 6 pm against Queens University of Charlotte.
