Patriots Wrestling Sweeps Mason Duals

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason wrestling team opened up the home portion of the schedule with the Mason Duals, finishing 3-0 in the four-team event.
 
The Patriots swept the duals to start the season, 3-0. George Mason defeated MAC foe Bloomsburg, 42-0, Millersville, 54-0, and Williams College, 37-6.
 
Twenty wrestlers on the Patriots roster saw action today led by Malachi DuVall and Dom Hargrove who each wrestled in three matches, finishing with perfect 3-0 records. 
 
Bloomsburg Match
The Patriots swept the duals to defeat Bloomsburg, 42-0. Six of the 10 bouts earned bonus points, including a fall and two tech falls. The win marks the sixth straight against the Huskies in the all-time series. Bloomsburg last defeated George Mason, 18-17, on December 3, 2017.
 
Three technical falls led the way for the Patriots.
 
In his first match of the season Kaden Cassidy (149) earned a technical fall in the 149-pound match, 15-0, taking only 49 seconds to pin Hayden Coy. Redshirt sophomore Evan Maag (165) disposed of Leo Hess with a tech fall, 19-2 (2:30). Freshman James Blackman began his Patriots career with a dominating win, earning a technical fall in the heavyweight match, 22-2, against the Huskies Tyler McCatham.
 
Major decisions were earned by three Patriots, including junior Ben Monn (125), Logan Messer (174), and Tyler Kocak (197). Monn earned a takedown in all three periods to defeat Major Lewis, 12-1. In his return to the mat, Messer won 14-3 against Matt Benedetti, and Tyler Kocak defeated Kolby Flank, 14-4 in the 197-pound bout.

Millersville Match
The Patriots have won all four matches in the season series with Millersville, dating back to December 1, 2007, with a 29-12 win in Lewisburg. Last season, George Mason defeated the Marauders, 32-8 in the Mason Duals.
 
George Mason won half the matches by fall, and four more by technical fall to defeat the Marauders, 54-0.
 
The Patriots Dom Hargrove (141), Riley Hackworth (174), Malachi Duvall (184), Donovan Sprouse, and Ean Winchester (285) each recorded a pin.
 
Four matches were won by technical fall: JB Dragovich (125), Charles Bunting (133), Thomas Stofka (157), and Sean Coughlin (165).

Williams Match
George Mason won eight of the 10 matches to defeat Williams College, 37-6.
 
George Mason has won all three matches in the all-time series with DIII Williams College. The Ephs have participated in the last two Mason Duals.
 
In his third match of the day, Dom Hargrove earned his second fall (2:10) on the day. Freshman Ean Winchester also won two bouts by fall, against Millersville and Williams.
