ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The George Mason Patriots played #10 Maryland in a close contest, but ultimately fell, 56-66.
The first of two game in the Navy Classic, the Patriots started slow when the Terps jumped out to a 16-3 lead. The Green & Gold trailed by as much as 15 but a three-pointer from stand-out scorer
Kennedy Harris at the end of the first half brought the Patriots to within 10.
In the second half, George Mason came out firing. Holding the Terps to just seven points in the third quarter, the Patriots added 18 of their own, digging themselves out of their hole and going up 1 heading into the fourth quarter.
The fourth quarter was back and forth to start. Both teams had trouble scoring and so the lead wasn't more than a point or two until an "and-one" bucket for the Terps gave them the momentum. Though the Patriots never quit, it was the points that sealed their fate.
When the buzzer sounded, the Green & Gold had much to be proud of in defeat, but knowing it was within their grasp made the loss sting that much more.
