FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's volleyball team lost two games to Dayton this weekend. Despite shocking the Flyers by winning the first set of the first game, the Patriots ultimately fell to #19 Dayton in both games: Game 1 – 25-21, 18-25, 16-25, 17-25; Game 2. – 22-25, 16-25, 11-25.
The highlight of the weekend was set one of game one. The #19 Flyers entered the match as the heavy favorites, but the Patriots didn't let that scare them. 17 kills at a .233 clip helped the Patriots take an early lead and fend off an advance Flyer's offense to take the first set. But after the first set, the Patriots lost momentum, and the Flyers took control and won the last three sets to win the game.
On Sunday, the Flyers controlled the game from the first serve. And though the Patriots fought to keep the game close in each set, they were eventually outpaced, and lost 3-0.
