Fairfax, Va.— The George Mason wrestling team remains unbeaten after defeating SIUE, 32-8, at First Community Arena this afternoon.

The Patriots improve to 6-0 overall and remain atop the MAC East standings with a 4-0 record. It's George Mason's best start since 2022-23 when the team won eight straight to open the season. The Cougars dropped to 1-2 overall, 0-1 in the MAC. George Mason has won four straight matches against the Cougars. 

The match featured two of the MAC conference's top-5 teams. The Patriots, ranked third, won eight of the 10 matches against the fifth-ranked Cougars. 

Redshirt sophomore #23 Evan Maag earned his third fall this season with a pin at 1:52 against Bradley Gillum. Maag is 4-0 in the MAC, all bonus point wins.

Two George Mason wrestlers earned wins by major decisions, #26 DJ McGee (157) and freshman James Blackman (285). McGee improves to 6-1, 3-1 in the MAC. Blackman is 5-2 overall, 3-0 in the conference.

Ben Monn (125) earned a win in sudden victory against Davian Guanajuato to improve to 8-1. Kaden Cassidy remains unbeaten after with a 4-0 record after an 8-3 decision, all against MAC opponents.

#24 Malachi DuVall edged Deron Pulliam (SIUE), 1-0, to remain unbeaten  (6-0, 4-0) this season. Charlie Bunting won his match over Marcel Lopez (SIUE), 4-1 in the 133 weight class. 

UP NEXT: The Patriots return home to host MAC Buffalo on Dec. 6 at 5 pm. The dual will be held at a new unique venue on campus, the Johnson Center.  

"I'm excited about hosting the match at the Johnson Center to showcase our program to new people on campus," said Coach Frank Beasley. "It has the potential for a great atmosphere. If we can pack it, it will be electric!"
