HUNTINGTON, W.V. – The Patriots women's basketball team held off a late run from the Marshall Thundering Herd to win on Sunday evening, 69-56.
A 21-point performance from junior
Zahirah Walton led the Patriots to their 13 point victory. Sophomore

Nalani Kaysia also scored in double-digits tonight. Kaysia also tallied the first double-double of the season, adding 16 rebounds to her 12 points.
The Patriots jumped out to a 6-0 lead to start the game, but the Herd fought to keep it close, and the Green & Gold only led by five at the end of the quarter.
Walton came alive in the second quarter, scoring 10 of her 21 points in those 10 minutes. The Patriots went on a run thanks to six straight points from Walton, ending the half up 11.
Marshall controlled the third quarter, outscoring the Patriots 19-12, and closing in on the Green & Golds' lead. But in the fourth quarter, it was all George Mason. The Patriots outscored the Herd 16-5, and held them scoreless the last 5:55 of the game.
