FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason University men's basketball head coach Tony Skinn ('06) has announced that 4-star forward Emmanuel Kanga will join the Patriots beginning in 2025-26.
A 6-foot-9 inch force from Libreville, Gabon, Kanga is currently competing for Mt. Zion Prep in Lanham, Md.
"Emmanuel is a highly-touted player who we love," Skinn said. "His energy, size, athleticism and his feel at the position will make him a perfect A-10 big. He has excellent hands and an unstoppable motor. He'll have the opportunity to be an impactful freshman at George Mason."
Rated as a 4-star recruit by On3 and the nation's No. 93 overall prospect by Slam Magazine, Kanga chose George Mason over offers from Maryland and Georgetown, among other local programs. He is ranked as a top-125 prospect by 247 Sports and the No. 3 Class of 2025 player in Maryland.
Earlier this fall, Kanga was named to the Commonwealth Basketball Group Juco Prep All-Showcase First Team, amongst some of the nation's other top prospects. He also competed with famed DC Premier on the AAU circuit this past summer and attended the NCAA's College Basketball Academy in July.
In summer 2023, Kanga earned Under Armour Association Top-60 Camp MVP honors. Previous recipients of the prestigious award include Armando Bacot and Jaden Springer.
On the global circuit, he competed for his native Gabon in a series of international events, including Africa Champions Clubs ROAD TO B.A.L. 2023, and suited up for FIBA 3x3 competition this past summer.
"Emmanuel's humility and foundation as a person make him a true culture guy," Skinn added. "Over the summer, I was so impressed with his commitment to return from injury, get healthy and impact his AAU team. He's the kind of student-athlete we want in our program."
