FAIRFAX, Va.– The George Mason University men's basketball team put together a complete game from start to finish during a dominant 94-56 victory over Stony Brook Monday night inside EagleBank Arena.
George Mason came out poised from the start while jumping out to a 19-point halftime lead (46-27). The Green & Gold led by as many as 39 before finishing with the 38-point margin, marking the largest win in nearly two seasons.
The Patriots put together their best 3-point performance to date while connecting on 11-of-27 attempts (.407) and shot 54.2 percent (32-59) overall from the field.
On the defensive end, GM locked in to limit the Seawolves to 31.7 percent (19-60) overall and just 5-of-26 (.192) from 3pt range.
Senior
Darius Maddox led the Patriots with his second-straight 20-point effort. He connected on 5-of-8 field goals and 8-of-9 free throw attempts in an efficient 19 minutes of play.
Junior
Giovanni Emejuru added 17 points (7-8 FG) and eight rebounds, while graduate student
Zach Anderson provided a boost with five first-half 3-pointers. He finished with 15 points and seven rebounds in 21 minutes.
Senior
K.D. Johnson dished out a team-best six assists to go along with nine points, while junior
Brayden O'Connor tallied nine points, three steals and two assists.
The Patriots dished out a season-best 19 assists on the night and committed just 10 turnovers after averaging 18 over the first two games. GM also held significant advantages in points in the paint (38-22) and bench scoring (52-24).
A total of 10 player scored for Mason in a balanced attack throughout the night.
The win improved GM to 30-5 in its last 35 home contests.
George Mason is right back in EagleBank Arena on Wednesday night when the Patriots host Central Michigan. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
