DAVIDSON, N.C. - The George Mason women's volleyball team won their first A-10 matchup of the 2024 season over the Davidson Wildcats, 3-1. Despite losing the first set, the Patriots won the next three to win the game: 14-25, 25-22, 27-25, 25-23.
The Patriots started the game slow, letting the Wildcats jump out to a 10-4 lead in the first set. Davidson controlled the set, and won 14-25.
The Patriots reset before set two, and it showed. A couple of runs and a 5-2 start put the Patriots in control. The Wildcats made a late run to make it 24-22, but senior
Camille Larkin finished the match with a kill, assisted by redshirt junior
Damiana Bova-Ford.
The third set was a nailbiter, with both teams exchanging points. Several times the Patriots seemed to have gone on a run big enough to win, but the Wildcats clawed their way back into it. After all the back-and-forth, the game was tied at 25-25, but thanks to kills from senior
Olyvia Kennedy and sophomore
Chelsea Colter, the Patriots closed out the set, winning 27-25.
In the fourth and final set, the Patriots jumped out to a 7-2 start, thanks in part to back-to-back service aces from Larkin. The Green & Gold led the entire match, holding off a late run from the Wildcats that made the score 23-22. Once again, it was Colter with the final kill of the match, securing the victory for the Patriots.
This is the first victory for the Patriots over the Wildcats since 2018, and just the fifth ever in 17-game history.
