Fairfax, Va. – The Mid-American Conference Announced the Preseason team and individual weight class rankings for the upcoming 2024-25 wrestling season, with George Mason ranked third, its highest preseason ranking in the MAC.
  
Going into this season, the reigning 2024 MAC Champion Chippewas were selected as the favorite of the MAC with 106 points, followed by Lock Haven in second place with 104.5 points and George Mason with 103 points to round out the top three. 
 
The preseason rankings for each of the 10 weight classes were also announced.
 
George Mason's Malachi DuVall (184) and Evan Maag (165) are ranked atop their weight class to start the season. Both look to defend their 2024 MAC Championship at the same weight class. NCAA Qualifier DJ McGee is ranked second at 157 pounds.
 
DuVall finished with a 19-12 record and earned his first selection to the NCAA Championship as a MAC Champion in 2024. The Centre Hall, Pa. native, upended top-seeded Cameron Pine from Clarion with a 7-4 decision in the 184-pound championship. 
 
Maag (27-11) won 15 of his last 17 matches, including three straight wins at the 2024 MAC tournament. The No. 3 seed pinned #12 Garrett Thompson (Ohio) in 2:49 to earn his place at the NCAA Championship. The Bethlehem, Pa. native finished the season in the top 10 NCAA D1 Falls with 10 pins.
 
McGee had a tremendous season topped by a second-place finish at the 2024 MAC Championship, earning an automatic bid to represent the Patriots at the 2024 NCAA Division I Men's Wrestling Championships. The MAC Freshman of the Year was one of two Mason wrestlers to win more than 20 matches, finishing with a 25-7 record.
 
Four more Patriots wrestlers were ranked in the top 5; Ben Monn (125), Kaden Cassidy (149), Logan Messer (174), and Tyler Kocak (197).
  
The Patriots 2024-25 wrestling season kicks off this weekend, Sunday, Nov. 3, at the Citadel Invite in Charleston, S.C. The conference season will culminate at the 2025 MAC Wrestling Championship on March 7-8 in Trenton, N.J., on the campus of Rider University.
