WASHINGTON, D.C. – The George Mason women's volleyball team lost a midweek match up to George Washington, 0-3. The Patriots (9-15, 4-8 A-10) struggled to close out the sets against regional rival GW (16-9, 6-6 A-10) on Wednesday evening: 23-25, 19-25, 23-25.
The Patriots looked strong in set one, keeping the game close to start. Then, off the service of freshman
Avery Booker, the Patriots strung together six points and took a three-point lead halfway through the set. The Green & Gold continued to lead until it was 22-18, then GW went on a 7-1 run to close out the set, winning 25-23.
In set two, George Mason once again kept the game close until the midway point. Then, the Revs went on a three-point run that the Patriots never recovered from. GW eventually won the set 25-19.
The start of set three was rough for the Patriots. It looked like the Revs were going to take the game easily after a 14-5 start. But, the Green & Gold refused to quit, eventually digging themselves out of the hole and taking the lead, 20-19. The teams went back-and-forth, but eventually it was GW who strung together the final points, winning 25-23.
