FAIRFAX, Va. – Three different Patriots scored goals to lead George Mason to a 4-1 victory over Saint Joseph's on Saturday night at Sweeney Field in Philadelphia, Pa.
George Mason (11-3-0, 5-1-0 A-10) took the lead over Saint Joseph's (3-11-1, 0-6-0 A-10) early in the match off a set piece.
In the eighth minute, graduate student defender
Luis Maestre scored his second goal of the season on a free kick from 28 yards out to put the Patriots in front, 1-0.
The Patriots have scored the first goal in 10 of their 14 matches, including the first goal of the match in the first 28 minutes of play in nine games.
George Mason extended the lead to 2-0 in the 17th minute of play on an own goal by the Hawks.
Graduate student defender
Jordi Navio Sanchez started the play from the right side of the penalty area on a counter attack and played the ball ahead to freshman forward
Martim Sereno, who sent a cross from nine yards out on the right of the box that deflected off a Hawks defender and into the left corner of the net.
The Patriots added two goals in the first five minutes of the season half.
In the 53rd minute, graduate student forward
Marek Gonda collected a rebound and tapped the ball into the net from just outside the goal line for his eighth goal of the season to make it a 3-0 game.
Sereno started the play when he intercepted a pass and played the ball ahead to sophomore midfielder
Quentin Clain, who blistered a shot on frame from 18 yards out.
George Mason senior defender Javi Sánchez converted a penalty kick in the 60th into the lower left corner minute to increase the lead to 4-0.

Henry Wachsman was issued a red card in the 64th minute. With George Mason down a player, Saint Joseph's junior midfielder Matteo Mazzotta scored the Hawks lone goal of the match in the 69th minute.

Jaume Salvado (9-3-0, 4-1-0 A-10) made four saves and earned the win.
On the road this season, the Patriots improved to 5-2-0 overall and 3-0-0 in A-10 play.
