BRONX, N.Y. - The George Mason women's volleyball team beat the Fordham Rams, 3-0, on a Sunday afternoon in the Bronx. The Patriots (7-12, 2-5 A-10) swept the Rams (5-11, 1-6 A-10) in three sets despite a heartbreaking five-set loss the day before: 25-18, 27-25, 26-14.
The Patriots started set one strong with a 4-1 run. The Rams caught up, tying the game at 4-4, and then both teams exchanged runs until it was 16-16. From there on out, it was all George Mason. On a 9-2 run, the Patriots closed out the set, and took set one in dominant fashion.
Set two was a game of point exchange. There were 13 ties and seven lead changes between the two teams. At one point, the Rams took a five-point lead, but the Patriots fought back off the service of senior
Camille Larkin. With points going back and forth for a while more, the Patriots found themselves down 24-25. But, off the service of junior
Rachel Larsen, the Green & Gold scored three points and secured the set.
After an initial point exchange in set three, the Rams took a four-point lead that they maintained until the Patriots were able to complete a comeback and tie the game off a service ace from senior
Ewelina Gacek. The teams exchanged points again until they were tied at 20-20. There, the Patriots stalled for a minute and it looked like the Rams were going to force a fourth set. But, thanks to a couple of kills from Gacek and back-to-back aces from senior
Olyvia Kennedy, the Patriots completed their comeback, winning the third set, and sweeping the Rams.
