Fairfax - George Mason completed its second game of the season with a 3-2 loss against Santa Barbara.
Omar Hoyos finished the game with 15 kills while Troy McDonald led the team once again in assists (40). Troy McDonald continued his form achieving 13 digs as well. Sam Peters was crucial in defense registering 6 blocks. Geste Bianchi of Santa Barbara had an unforgettable game achieving 30 kills to lead the comeback.
George Mason came out firing in the first set taking an early 10-3 lead before Santa Barbara had to call a timeout. Liam French was the main man with 5 kills and helped with the blocks. George Mason's defense was at full display with the digs from Troy McDonald and the collective blocking. Santa Barbara did find their rhythm trying to cut down the lead but Mason was not phased and took the first set 25-15.
Santa Barbara put out a different lineup for the second set and it seemed it may have made a difference but the Patriots did not allow them to take a lead. Omar Hoyos found his form and was causing many problems for Santa Barbara. The second set ended with a block from Liam French and Sam Peters to give Mason a 2-0 lead over the home team.
The momentum continued for Mason in the third set taking a 12-8 lead before Santa Barbara had to call a timeout. After that timeout, Santa Barbara came back and took a 17-16 lead forcing the Patriots to call a timeout. Santa Barbara continued with their offensive form but Mason kept it a one point game until the end, Santa Barbara took the third set 26-24.
The Santa Barbara offense stayed alive for the 4th set and forced a fifth after being down 0-2. George Mason were not able to recover their previous form and Santa Barbara made the comeback to win the game, 3-2.
