WASHINGTON, D.C. – Sophomore
Zahirah Walton has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for the third time in her career and for the second-straight week, announced by the league office on Monday.
Walton's honor marks the fifth-straight and sixth overall Rookie of the Week honor for the Patriots this season, as she already earned it on Dec. 26 and Jan. 15 and freshman
Kennedy Harris has earned it three times.
Walton contributed across the board in the Patriots' 2-0 week as Mason downed Saint Louis at home and UMass on the road, both by over 20-point margins. Against SLU, Walton scored a team-high 21 points on a career-high nine field goals with a career-best two assists and five steals. She also contributed three rebounds and a block.
Against UMass on the road, the Seattle, Wash. native scored 14 points to go with seven rebounds, three steals and two assists. Overall for the week, she averaged 17.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 steals, 2.0 assists, shot .59.1% from the field and went 100% (8-8) from the free throw line.
Walton and the Patriots return to the court on Wednesday, Jan. 24 for a rivalry matchup with George Washington at noon in the nation's capital.
