NORFOLK, Va. – The George Mason women's swimming and diving team defeated Old Dominion, 137-125, while the men's team fell to the Monarchs, 153.5-108.5, on Saturday in Norfolk, Va.
The women's team won eight events, six individual and two relays.
Junior Ali Tyler won three individual events against the Monarchs.
In the 50-freestyle, Tyler placed first (24.12) with junior Shannon Judge third (24.88).
Tyler claimed the 100-yard IM (59.02) with sophomore Anka Whelan third in the event (59.84). Tyler also took the top spot in the 50-yard butterfly (26.04) and was a member of the winning 400-yard medley relay along with junior Emma Dejong, sophomore Peyton Brehmer and Judge (3:55.02).
DeJong placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.12) and third in the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.41).
Sophomore Anka Whelan won the 50-yard backstroke (27.14) with freshman Casey Tingen third (28.37). Whelan also won the 100-yard backstroke (57.15) while Tingen was third (1:00.07).
Freshman Kristen Ivey swam to a first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (5:15.62) and classmate Clare Smith placed fourth (5:22.36).
In the 100-yard freestyle, Brehmer placed second (53.14), Judge was third (53.77) and sophomore Ally Yeary finished fourth (55.05).
In the 50-yard breaststroke, Yeary took third (31.63), sophomore Ainsley Toews was fourth (31.69) and freshman Alayna Brooker fifth (32.19).
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the team of DeJong, Judge, Brehmer and Zeidan took the top spot (3:32.51).
The men's team won five events, four individual and one relay.
Freshman Ian Rodgers won the 100-yard butterfly (50.40) and was second in the 50-yard butterfly (23.12).
In the 50-yard freestyle, sophomore Tate Anderson touched the wall first (21.11) with freshman Colby Lane third (21.80). Anderson also won the 100-yard backstroke (50.74) with sophomore Jett Lee third (52.13).
In the 50-yard backstroke, Lee placed second (24.03).
In the 100-yard freestyle, junior Zane Roberts won the event (46.87) while sophomore Joshua Hochard took third (47.08). Roberts placed second in the 100-yard IM (53.06).
Freshman Alex Crown was second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:41.94) and third in the 500-yard freestyle (4:41.17).
The combination of Anderson, Hochard, Rodgers and Roberts won the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:05.51).
In the 400-yard medley relay, the team of Anderson, Rodgers, Lentine and Hochard placed second (3:24.42).
The Patriots host UMBC in the final dual of the season on Saturday, January 27 at noon at the Aquatic and Fitness Center in Fairfax, Va.
