FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's soccer team hosts Navy on Monday with the opening kick scheduled for 7 p.m. at George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Va.

Mason (0-2-2) and Navy (2-3-0) have met 15 times. The Patriots lead the all-time series, 8-4-3, including a mark of 2-3-3 in matches played on the road against the Midshipmen. All eight games played in Annapolis have been decided by one goal or have ended in a draw.

In the last meeting between the two clubs, the Midshipmen scored the lone goal of the match in the 40th minute in a 1-0 victory over the Patriots at the Glenn Warner Soccer Complex in Annapolis, Md.

The Midshipmen outshot the Patriots, 14-8, including a 5-1 advantage in shots on goal. Navy finished with five corner kicks, while Mason had two corner kicks in the match.

Last time out, the Patriots played to a 0-0 draw at Bucknell on Friday night in Lewisburg, Pa.

PATRIOTS SCHEDULE

The Patriots are scheduled to play 15 regular season games, a slate that includes eight matches against Atlantic 10 opponents and six games at George Mason Stadium.

Rich Costanzo begins his second season after being named the Patriots' 11th men's soccer coach in program history last year.

The Green and Gold kicked off the regular season at home against UMBC on Aug. 24 (4-3 Retrievers) and played the first road match against Virginia on Aug. 31 (1-0 Cavaliers). Charlottesville.

Mason returned home to take on Old Dominion on Sept. 24 (2-2 draw). The Patriots made their first visit to Lewisburg, Pa. and played to a 0-0 draw against Bucknell on Sept. 8. Mason will face Navy (Sept. 11) at George Mason Stadium.

The Patriots play their first Atlantic 10 match of the season when they host Davidson (Sept. 16). Mason will then travel to play St. Bonaventure (Sept. 23) in Olean, N.Y.

Mason will then alternate road and home games over a six-match span from Sept. 30 through Oct. 21.

The Patriots wrap up the month of September on the road against La Salle (Sept. 30) in Philadelphia, Pa. before returning to George Mason Stadium to host Rhode Island (Oct. 4).Â

The match against the Rams is the first of seven that the Patriots will play in October, with three at home and four on the road in the month.

Mason makes the trek to take on Duquesne (Oct. 7) in Pittsburgh, Pa. and then returns home for a clash against Dayton (Oct. 14).

The Patriots travel to face Radford (Oct. 17) in a non-conference matchup before returning to league play at home against in-state rival VCU (Oct. 21).

The Patriots will play their final two matches of the regular season on the road against Delaware (Oct. 24) and George Washington (Oct. 28).

Prior to the start of the regular season, Mason played two exhibition games. The Patriots traveled to Loyola on Aug. 12 (3-1 Greyhounds) and hosted Mount St. Mary's on Aug. 19 (3-0 Patriots).

Campus sites will host the Atlantic 10 tournament, with the first round scheduled for Nov. 5 and the final slated for Nov. 13.

SCOUTING NAVY

Navy has a record of 2-3-0 after its first five matches of the season. The Midshipmen are 2-2-0 at home and 1-1-0 on the road.

The Midshipmen outshot the Lancers, 17-11, including a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal. Longwood had eight corner kicks and Navy had seven corner kicks in the match.

Navy began the season with a 3-1 setback against UNC Asheville on Aug. 24 at Greenwood Soccer Field in Ashville, N.C.Â

The Midshipmen then recorded back-to-back clean sheets to begin a three-match homestand at Glenn Warner Soccer Facility with a 3-0 win over VMI on Aug. 28 and a 6-0 victory over Howard on Sept. 1. In the final game of the homestand, Navy fell to Liberty, 2-1, on Sept. 3.

Senior midfielder David Jackson leads the team in goals (4), assists (3), points (11), shots (15) and Shots on goal (10). Sophomore forward A.J. Schuetz is tied for second in goals (2) and is second in points (5). Sophomore forward Andrew Schug is tied for second in goals (2) and is third on the club in points (4).

Junior goalkeeper Pierce Holbrook (2-3-0) has started all five games for the Midshipmen with a 1.48 goals against average and .533 save percentage. He has made eight saves and allowed seven goals against.

The Midshipmen, the defending Patriot League champions, were selected as the preseason favorite, just four points ahead of Boston University and five ahead of American.

Navy finished 7-5-9 last season and defeated Lafayette (1-0), Boston University (9-8 on PKs) and American (1-0) in to capture the Patriot League title. The Midshipmen were shutout by Georgetown, 2-0, in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Nov. 17 at Shaw Field in Washington, D.C.
