FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's volleyball team has committed to raising awareness during the month of September for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and the Cody's Crew Foundation.

On Sept. 29 during Friday's game against Saint Louis, the Patriots will be wearing gold t-shirts as warmup shirts and fans are also encouraged to help "Gold Out" the gym and wear gold of their own.

Approximately 1,800 children lose their battle to cancer each year in the United States. Cody Johnson was diagnosed with stage 4 Neuroblastoma on his second birthday and battled until March 6, 2009. Cody enjoyed playing soccer, pirates, motorcycles, and going to the beach. Since 2009, the Johnson family has run the Cody's Crew Foundation to support other children battling cancer across the world and has donated close to $500,000 to The Children's Oncology Group located in California. Recently, Cody's mom has started to hand-make blankets and donate them to children's hospitals across the United States.

Fans are encouraged to visit the Cody's Crew Foundation website HERE to learn more about Cody, his battle and the foundation.
