FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's soccer team hosts Davidson to begin Atlantic 10 Conference play on Saturday with the opening kick scheduled for 7 p.m. at George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Va.

The Patriots are unbeaten over their last three matches (1-0-2) with two shutouts. Davidson has started the season 3-0-1 and has surrendered just one goal against.

Mason (1-2-2) and Davidson (3-0-1) have met 11 times. The Patriots lead the all-time series, 5-4-2, including a mark of 4-3-0 in matches played at George Mason Stadium. Eight of the last 10 meetings between the two clubs have been decided by one goal or ended in a draw.

In the last meeting between the two clubs, the Wildcats scored in the 38th and 78th minute in a 2-0 win over the Patriots on Sept. 24, 2022 at Alumni Soccer Stadium in Davidson, N.C.

The Patriots are scheduled to play 15 regular season games, a slate that includes eight matches against Atlantic 10 opponents and six games at George Mason Stadium.

Rich Costanzo begins his second season after being named the Patriots' 11th men's soccer coach in program history last year.

The Green and Gold kicked off the regular season at home against UMBC on Aug. 24 (4-3 Retrievers) and played the first road match against Virginia on Aug. 31 (1-0 Cavaliers). Charlottesville.

Mason returned home to take on Old Dominion on Sept. 24 (2-2 draw). The Patriots traveled to battle Bucknell on Sept. 8 (0-0 draw) in Lewisburg, Pa.

The Patriots play their first Atlantic 10 match of the season when they host Davidson (Sept. 16). Mason will then travel to play St. Bonaventure (Sept. 23) in Olean, N.Y.

Mason will then alternate road and home games over a six-match span from Sept. 30 through Oct. 21.

The Patriots wrap up the month of September on the road against La Salle (Sept. 30) in Philadelphia, Pa. before returning to George Mason Stadium to host Rhode Island (Oct. 4).Â

The match against the Rams is the first of seven that the Patriots will play in October, with three at home and four on the road in the month.

Prior to the start of the regular season, Mason played two exhibition games. The Patriots traveled to Loyola on Aug. 12 (3-1 Greyhounds) and hosted Mount St. Mary's on Aug. 19 (3-0 Patriots).

The Wildcats opened the season at home against High Point on Aug. 24 with the game ending in a no-contest due to weather. Â

The Wildcats notched a 2-0 home victory over Presbyterian on Aug. 31 at Alumni Soccer Stadium. After a 1-1 draw against Virginia Tech on Sept. 3 in Blacksburg, Va., the Wildcats returned home and blanked Averett, 3-0, with three second-half goals on Sept. 6.Â

Junior forward Vincent Bennage leads the club in goals (3) and is tied for first in points (6). Sophomore forward Denis Krioutchenkov is tied for first in points (6) and tied for second in goals (2). He leads the team in shots (15) and shots on goal (6).

Sophomore midfielder Alonzo Clarke is tied for second in goals (2) and is second in points (4).

Senior goalkeeper Lou Liedtka (3-0-1) has started all four games for the Wildcats with a 0.33 goals against average and .909 save percentage. He has made 11 saves and allowed just one goal against.

Mason and Davidson have met once in Atlantic 10 Tournament play, with the Patriots earning a 4-2 victory on penalty kicks in the first round on Nov. 13, 2014 in Richmond, Va.
