LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Easton and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) recognized George Mason Softball as an Academic Team for the 2023 season, ranking the Patriots 38
th out of 172 eligible Division I schools.
Three other schools are tied with Mason in the No. 38 spot, and they are Bradley University, University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa and Southern Utah University.
To be recognized for the award, a Division I team must attain at least a 3.0 GPA throughout the entire 2022-23 school year.
The Patriots,
who earned the President's Cup in Mason's most recent Green and Gold Celebration, achieved a team GPA of 3.59,
the highest mark of any Mason team in the 2022-23 school year.
Ten individual members of the softball team were also named All-America Scholar Athletes by Easton/NFCA. To be honored with the exclusive accolade, a student-athlete must carry a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above.
This year, nearly 8,300 student athletes across the nation earned 2022-23 Scholar Athlete honors.
Seniors
Rachel Warrens and
Maddy Myers, as well as juniors
Sydney Bales,
Marlaina Bozek and
Zoe Vozick garnered the honor for the third time in their careers. Sophomores
Jordan Anderson and
Hayley Shifflett earned the award for the second consecutive year.
In addition, first-time Patriot honorees were given to
Maggie Mrowka,
Aly Rayle and
Jordan Tallman.
