The Patriots had one shot on goal in the first half with
Rachel Eberly's left-footed shot, but it was saved by East Carolina's goalkeeper.
Keegynn Applegate was also credited with a shot on goal in the 73
rd minute, but her shot was aimed directly at the goalkeeper who caught it chest-high.
The two schools held each other scoreless for the first 35 minutes of the game until Samantha Moxie's right-footed shot from 20 yards out flew into the top left corner of the goal. This would be the only goal scored in the first half.
East Carolina scored the second goal of the game three minutes into the start of the second half off of a corner kick. The ball sailed into the box and Juliana Viera redirected the ball to the far post, where Jazmin Furguson buried the shot from inside the six-yard box.
Brooke Buzynski scored the Pirates' third goal 22 minutes later. Her right-footed shot from the top of the 18-yard box was aimed for the bottom-left corner of the goal, where
Ginny Fronk made the initial diving save. Unfortunately, the shot was not cleanly stopped, and the deflected ball hit the inside of the left goal post and bounced over the goal line.
The final goal of the night happened in the 84
th minute when Elsa Stedman's high-arching kick from over 25 yards out snuck just under the crossbar and over the outstretched arm of the diving Fronk.
