FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason University men's basketball team has announced its 2023-24 non-conference schedule, which features eight home contests, a November tournament in Jacksonville and a marquee road matchup at Tennessee.
In addition, the Patriots will begin home-and-home series with American Athletic Conference opponents East Carolina and Tulane in Mason's inaugural season under head coach Tony Skinn ('06).
George Mason opens the 2023-24 campaign with a trio of home contests inside EagleBank Arena.
The Patriots kick off the season on Monday, November 6 with a contest against Monmouth. Mason then hosts Austin Peay on Friday, November 10 for the annual Gold Rush game.
George Mason wraps up the homestand with a Wednesday, November 15 game vs. Cornell. The Big Red return seven of their top eight scorers from last season's top-150 squad which won 17 games.
From there, the Patriots hit the road to compete in the Jacksonville Classic. Mason will play a pair of contests on November 19 and November 20 on the campus of Flagler College in St. Augustine, Fla. The Patriots will join UCF, Charlotte and South Dakota State in the four-team MTE.
From there, Mason returns home for a Thanksgiving weekend contest against former CAA foe East Carolina on Saturday, November 25. It will mark the first matchup between the Patriots and Pirates since the Green & Gold picked up a 77-71 win on November 22, 2008 in Greenville.
The Patriots remain in Fairfax to host NJIT on Wednesday, November 29, before hitting the road for a two-game swing.
After the Patriots knocked off top-100 foe Toledo in Fairfax last season, the Green & Gold will play the back half of the home-and-home series against the Rockets on Saturday, December 2 in the Glass City.
From there, Mason heads south to Knoxville for the contest against the Volunteers on Tuesday, December 5. It will mark the second all-time matchup between the Patriots and Volunteers, who enter this season as a consensus top-25 team. In the only other meeting, George Mason picked up a 58-55 win over the Tennessee in the first round of the 2004 NIT, held at EagleBank Arena.
After a break for final exams, the Green & Gold return to Fairfax for a pair of mid-December home games. George Mason hosts Loyola (Md.) on Saturday, December 16, then faces off with Bridgewater College on Tuesday, December 19.
Mason begins its home-and-home series with Tulane on December 22, when the Patriots travel to New Orleans to battle the Green Wave. Tulane will come to Fairfax for a return matchup in 2024-25. The two teams met last season on a neutral floor in Chicago, with the Patriots knocking off the Green Wave inside the United Center.
After a holiday break, Mason wraps up the non-conference schedule with a December 30 home matchup against North Carolina A&T.
