FAIRFAX, Va. – Six George Mason student-athletes have been named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Academic All-State team for their efforts in competition and in the classroom.
Jacquee Clabeaux (Women's Swimming & Diving), Maddy Baldwin (Rowing
), Nicole Bechtel (Softball),
Annabelle Eastman (W. Track & Field), Omar Hoyos (Men's Volleyball), and
Rishab Sardana (Men's Tennis) earned the honor.
To qualify, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore with a minimum grade point average of 3.25. VaSID selected 220 student-athletes for All-Academic honors across 37 schools in Virginia.
Jacquee Clabeaux | Fairfax, Va. | Public Health | Women's Swimming
Graduate student Jacquee Clabeaux is a three-time recipient of the VaSID All-Academic All-State honor. A public health major, Clabeaux helped the Patriots win the gold medal in the 400-yard medley relay with a new meet record (3:36.40), the gold medal in the 400-yard freestyle relay for the second straight year (3:17.94) and the silver-medal in the 200-yard medley relay (1:39.75). The Fairfax, native earned the 2023 Women's Team Player of the Year honor.
Maddy Baldwin | Jr. | Woodbridge, Va. | Kinesiology | Rowing
Maddy Baldwin holds a perfect 4.0 GPA earning distinction as a Peter N. Stearns Provost Scholar. The junior is majoring in kinesiology. An accomplished member of Mason's Varsity 8+, Baldwin helped the Patriots show significant improvement throughout the season from the No. 7 seat.
Nicole Bechtel | RS Junior | Harrisburg, Pa. | Softball
Redshirt junior Nicole Bechtel is a Peter N. Stearns Provost Scholar. The catcher anchored the Patriot offense throughout the course of the season. Bechtel was a top-three offensive contributor earning her A-10 First Team All-Conference. She led the team in batting average during the regular season (.352) and was second overall in hits (53), doubles (15), RBI and total bases (81). She was voted Women's Team Most Improved at the Green and Gold Celebration.
Annabelle Eastman | GS | Melbourne, Australia | Cross Country/Women's T&F
This is the second-straight year Eastman earned the VaSID Academic All-State honor. A native of Melbourne, Australia, Eastnan is a three-time Peter N. Stearns Provost Scholar graduating with a degree in Kinesiology. She finished 19th at the NCAA Southeast Regional earning All-Region honors (20:39.3). She placed 3rd in the A-10 Championship which included All-Conference honors (16:55.4).
Omar Hoyos | Junior | Pembroke Pines, Fla. | Communications | Men's Volleyball
Omar Hoyos was named to the Academic All-District® Team, an award presented by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CSC). Hoyos is a junior who is majoring in Communications while concentrating in Journalism. He is a Peter N. Stearns Provost Scholar and has been on the Dean's List for the past six semesters.
Rishab Sardana | GS | Union City, Calif. | Economics | Men's Tennis
Rishab Sardana is Mason's first A-10 All-Academic Team selection since Edward Ayers in 2019. He holds a perfect 4.0 GPA in Mason's elite economics graduate program. On the court, the two-time All-A-10 pick tallied a 3-2 record in A-10 dual singles matches and was 3-0 in A-10 dual doubles at No. 2.
