FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason University men's volleyball student-athlete Omar Hoyos has been named to the Academic All-District® Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CSC) on Tuesday.
 
Omar is a junior who is majoring in Communications while concentrating in Journalism. He has been on the Dean's List for the past six semesters.

A native of Caguas, Puerto Rico, he's a member of the Puerto Rico Men's National Team, where he competed in the 2022 FIVB World Championships and the 2022 Pan-American Cup. His greatest aspiration is to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
 
This past season, he was named the AVCA National Men's Collegiate player of the Week, EIVA Second Team All-Conference and EIVA All-Academic. He tallied 322 kills, 24 assists, 122 digs, 47 total blocks and 28 service aces.  He also earned the EIVA Offensive Player of the Week for the third time in his career.
 
When he is not working hard in the classroom or on the court, Omar can be found serving his community and volunteering his time to benefit those in need. Omar's dedication to George Mason and its mission is exceptional, as he volunteers countless hours mentoring youth, assisting underprivileged families, and reading to elementary school students.

The 2022-23 Academic All-District® Men's NCAA At-Large Teams, selected by CSC, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the competition realm and in the classroom.
 
First Team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in June.
 
The CSC Academic All-America® program is the only Academic All-America designation recognized by the NCAA.
