FAIRFAX, Va. – A total of 11 Patriots have qualified for the NCAA East Regional in Jacksonville, Fla. starting Wednesday May 24th, in five different events.
Daniel Adu, Edward Deskins,
Micah Harris, Jarrett Flaker (along with
Paul McClain and
Isaiah Carter as alternates) qualified in the 4x400m,
Micah Harris in the 800m,
Annabelle Eastman in the 3000m steeplechase,
Dhiambi Otete and
Grace Furlong in the triple jump and
Cason Gardner in the high jump.
4x400m
Juniors
Daniel Adu, Edward Deskins,
Micah Harris,
Jarett Flaker,
Paul McClain and
Isaiah Carter (seeded 23rd) have competed for the Patriots multiple times this year in the 4x400m. They have experienced success across the board, winning the A-10 Championship (3:09.43) and grabbing second at the IC4A/ECAC Championship (3:08.53). They posted two more wins at the Meet of Champions and the Colonial Relays (3:13.23, 3:23.01).
800m
Junior
Micah Harris won the 800m at this years A-10 Championship (1:49.58) and clinched his spot in the NCAAs at the IC4A/ECAC Championship last weekend (2nd, 1:48.84). Harris posted a 1st place finish at the Meet of Champions (1:49.43) and 2nd at the Dalton Ebanks Invitational.
3000m Steeplechase
Junior
Annabelle Eastman (seeded 16th) recorded her second straight 3000m steeplechase win at the A-10 Championship (10:08.77). Her best time came in a win at the Dalton Ebanks Invitational (10:02.44). This is her third time advancing to the NCAA East Regional.
Triple Jump
Junior
Dhiambi Otete (seeded 35th) won the gold medal at the A-10 Championship (12.77m). She placed fourth at the Meet of Champions and fifth at the Navy Spring Invitational (11.67m, 11.64m).
Senior
Grace Furlong (seeded 46th) notched the silver in the A-10 Championship (12.67m). She grabbed third at the Meet of Champions and fourth at the IC4A/ECAC Championships (11.88m, 12.56m).
High Jump
Senior
Cason Gardner (seeded 35th) will compete in the high jump due to a 2.08m jump at the A-10 Championship. It was a part of the decathlon in which he won the gold (7393) and posted the second-best score in Mason history. He recorded a win at the UCF Black and Gold Invite (2.05m) and finished 8th at the Raleigh Relays (2.01m).
