FAIRFAX, Va. The Patriots celebrated
Chey Cooper and
Zach Talamoa as a part of Senior Night in a tough loss against #3 Penn State.
Too many service errors and not enough blocks were a huge factor in the Patriots 3-0 loss to the Nittany Lions on Saturday night. The sets ended 20-25, 17-25 and 20-25.
At the beginning of the first, the Patriots kept it close. Despite trailing 12-9, a kill by
Chey Cooper and a bad set by Cole Bogner narrowed the lead to one (12-11). Penn State refused to back down and went on a 6-0 to put the set out of reach (25-20). Four different Patriots tallied a set assist, and
Omar Hoyos led in kills with four.
The Nittany Lions ran away with the second set taking an early lead at 7-2 and then at 10-3. The Patriots didn't give up, taking three out of the last five points as it ended 25-17. Three Patriots recorded multiple kills while the team totaled eight digs.
The Patriots fought hard in the third, keeping it within two at 10-8. Although the set fell away, they grabbed four out of five to bring the lead down to four at 24-20. It ended 25-20.
