WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Patriots scored five runs over the last three innings and senior infielder
South Trimble drove in the winning run in the ninth to lift Mason to a 5-4 victory over Georgetown on Tuesday at the Nationals Youth Academy in Washington, D.C.
Mason (15-13, 2-1 A10) fell behind Georgetown (16-13, 2-1 Big East) in the bottom of the first inning when the Hoyas scored three runs against Patriots freshman starter
Ryan Edmonds.
The Hoyas hit back-to-back home runs, with junior right fielder Jake Hyde a two-run shot and sophomore designated hitter Owen Carapellotti a solo home run.
Mason graduate student reliever
Kyle Smith held the Hoyas in check, allowing just one single over five innings of work from the second through the sixth.
Georgetown graduate student starter Collin Garner allowed a single to Mason junior center fielder
Jordan Smith in the first inning and then retired 18 of the next 19 batters he faced from the first through the seventh inning.
With two outs in the top of the seventh, six straight Patriots reached base beginning with junior first baseman
Mark Trotta, who reached on a throwing error to ignite the rally.

Derek Wood singled to center with Trotta racing around from second to put the Patriots on the board.
Georgetown made the call to the bullpen for graduate student Garrett Kehough. Senior second baseman
Brett Stallings smashed a RBI-double to left field to drive in Shealor to cut the Hoyas lead to 3-2.
Pinch-hitter
Ryan Archibald was intentionally walked to lead the bases for Trimble, who beat out an infield single to shortstop, with Wood crossing the plate to even the score, 3-3.
In the top of the eighth,
Jordan Smith led off with a solo home run, his third round-tripper of the season, to give Mason the lead at 4-3.
The Hoyas responded in the home half of the eighth against Mason graduate student reliever
Nolan Lamere when freshman Cody Bowker hit a solo home run to make it a 4-4 game.
With one out in the top of the ninth, Stallings walked and with two outs he stole second to move into scoring position against Hoyas graduate student Tyler Mead. Trimble then plated the winning run with a RBI-single to right field with Stallings racing home to lift the Patriots to the 5-4 comeback win.
For the Patriots, Edmonds allowed three runs on two hits in 1.0 inning in his first collegiate start.
Kyle Smith gave up just one hit in 5.0 innings of work. Lamere (1-0) allowed one run on three hits in 3.0 innings and earned his first win as a Patriots.
For the Hoyas, Garner surrendered three unearned runs in 6.2 innings. Kehough gave up one run on three hits in 1.1 innings. Mead (0-3) allowed one run on one hit in 1.0 inning and took the loss.
Jordan Smith went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, Trimble was 2-for-5 with two RBI, while Wood and Stallings each had one hit and drove in one run.
The Patriots are back in action on Wednesday against Towson with the first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. at John Scheurholz Park in Towson, Md.
