Box Score FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason University men's tennis team (6-6, 2-2 A-10) won its second-consecutive A-10 contest with a 4-3 thrilling victory over Fordham on Sunday morning at the Mason Tennis Courts.
"I'm proud of how hard the guys fought today," head coach Jimmy Davis said. "Fordham is a tough team and when we were faced with some difficult moments they we really stepped up today. This was a great weekend for us and we are continuing to improve with each match we play."
Fordham won the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead, but Mason tied it up after freshman
Monil Lotlikar took down Nicholas Kanazirev in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.
The Rams took No. 6 singles to go up 2-1, but Mason again bounced back after senior
Momin Khan won at No. 2 over Dhillon Virdee-Oakley. Khan took the opening set, 6-3, then won a thrilling tiebreak in the second, 7-6 (9-7).
Mason extended the edge to 3-1 after graduate student
Rishab Sardana completed a perfect 4-0 weekend with a three-set win over Toi Koboyashi at No. 4. After losing the first set, 6-4, Sardana came back to take the next two, 6-3, 6-2.
The Patriots clinched the match at No. 5, after sophomore
Niza Simunyola took down John Mascone in another three-set victory, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).
George Mason is back in action on Saturday (April 9) with a 2 p.m. contest vs. Navy in Fairfax.
