CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Patriots finished off the weekend with another win against the Harvard Crimson, this time in four sets. (25-15, 23-25, 25-19, 25-23). Mason has secured the four-seed in the EIVA Conference Tournament and will play the Crimson again on Wednesday at 7:00 PM at Penn State.
The Patriots posted another stellar performance to close out the regular season in which they led in kills, aces, blocks, assists and digs.
The Patriots started off hot in the first, taking a 3-0, and then 5-1 lead. Mason expanded on that lead throughout the set, eventually pushing it to 10 by the end (25-15).
Liam French and
Jack Bolz led with 4 kills each and
Troy McDonald tallied 12 assists.
The second seemed similar to the first, as the Patriots led 12-6. Then, the Crimson took five out of the next six to bring the margin to two (13-11). Harvard used a 3-0 run to take the lead at 19-18, but a kill by
Colin Heath and ace by
Lucas Little put the Patriots ahead 20-19. Unfortunately, another 3-0 run by Harvard helped them secure the set (23-25).
The Patriots put their foot back on the gas in the third, jumping out to an 8-5 lead. They held the lead the rest of the set and extended the lead to six by the end of the set (25-19). Four Patriots recorded a block and six posted a kill.
The fourth and final set went down to the wire. The Patriots trailed early on (3-8) but tied the game at 14. Each team kept the set within a couple of points as it neared its end (20-20). The Patriots took three of the next four and won the set 25-23. French notched eight kills, one ace, four receptions and two digs in the fourth.
