FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason women's lacrosse team were led by a career-high four goals from senior
Morgan Gunn, but it was not enough as the Patriots fell to Oregon, 16-10.
Gunn's four goals also marked her first career hat trick as she converted on her second free position goal of the season while contributing two ground balls and a caused turnover for Mason.
The Ducks (3-2) scored the game's first two goals, but junior
Kate Elam assisted on Gunn's first goal and then scored one on her own to even the game at two apiece. However, Oregon would go on a four goal run to end the first and begin the second to take a 6-2 lead at the 11:45 mark in the second quarter. Trailing 8-3 with the clock winding down in the half, senior
Chloe Reed found graduate student
Olivia Heaton with one second on the clock for her first goal of the season.
Reed opened up scoring for the Patriots (0-6) in the third quarter on a free position attempt to cut the Oregon lead to three, but the Ducks once again responded. After Elam scored her second goal of the game with 8:33 remaining in the third, Oregon used a 6-0 run to close the third and open the fourth to take their largest lead of the game, 16-6 with 13:11 remaining in the contest.
Mason would not give up however, as the defense locked down to not allow another goal the rest of the way. Four different Patriots scored down the stretch to bring the final tally to 16-10.
