FAIRFAX, Va. – Mason suffered a tough 3-1 EIVA loss to the Princeton Tigers Friday night.
Both teams struggled serving the ball, as Mason and Princeton each tallied 21 service errors. Unfortunately, the Patriots were not able to overcome those errors and lost in four sets (20-25, 25-21, 20-25, 17-25).
The first set went back and forth as the set was tied at 15. The Tigers took six out of the next seven points to build a five-point lead. The Patriot narrowed the lead to only three multiple times but could not come back as it ended (20-25). Five different Patriots recorded a kill in the first.
The second started similar to the first with both team jarring to find a significant lead. The tigers led by two when Mason mustered to steal seven of the next eight points to lead 22-18.
Omar Hoyos had three kills during that run. Mason was given its last three points by Tiger errors (1 ball-handling, 2 service error).
The score was close in the third until the Tigers went on a three-point run to lead 15-12. Mason did not get the score back to within one, as Princeton pulled away at the end 25-20.
Liam French had six kills and
Jack Bolz and Hoyos had four each.
The final set started with the Patriots ahead (6-4). The Tigers snatched the next five and the next thing you knew the Patriots were down 20-12. They fought till the final whistle at 25-17.
