FAIRFAX, Va. – The Patriots will travel to Newark, N.J. to play against the NJIT Highlanders tomorrow night at 6 P.M. in the NJIT Wellness and Events Center.
This is Mason's first away game of the season and their first conference game since defeating the University of Charleston (W. Va.) 3-0 on Feb. 25.
Last Time Out
The Patriots defeated the FDU Knights twice this past weekend, 3-1 and 3-0 to extend their winning streak to seven. Some highlights include
Omar Hoyos, who totaled 29 Kills, 3 set assists, 4 aces, 7 blocks (2 solo, 5 assist) and 12 digs, and Freshmen setter
Georgi Zahariev who finished with 6 kills, 65 set assists, 8 blocks (1 solo, 7 assist) and 17 digs.
Hoyos leads the Patriots in kills with 201, (3.47 per set).
Liam French is second (198/3.09 per set).
Zahariev continues to be the team's primary setter tallying 544 set assists (9.07), although
Troy McDonald is putting in some work as well (88/5.87). On the defensive side, libero
Paul Wyszynski contributes with the most digs (113/1.82) with Zahariev close behind (100/1.67).
Scouting the NJIT Highlanders (7-12) (EIVA 1-3)
The Highlanders are led by head coach Danny Goncalves in his eighth season. They fell to Saint Francis U 3-1 and Queens 3-0 last weekend.
Alessandro Negri leads the team in kills with 149, 2.76 per set. Teammate Jens Feldthus follows with 105 kills (1.62). Their setter is Roque Nido with 423 assists (8.13), but Griffin Fieseler has 145 of his own (6.30). Defensively, they are led by Alessandro Negri and Jens Feldthus with 69 digs.
Mason is 58-14 against the Highlanders in the all-time series.
