FAIRFAX, Va. – The Patriots won their seventh straight game Saturday evening against the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights in straight sets 3-0.
Mason led for the majority of every set finishing them 25-21, 25-19 and 25-21. They dominated the game at the net, recording seven more blocks and 10 less attacking errors then the Knights.
In the first set, the score tied six times, but the Patriots never gave up the lead. The Knights were within one (12-11) when the Patriots went on a 6-0 run to put the set out of reach (25-21).
Liam French and
Omar Hoyos both had four kills and
Georgi Zahariev recorded 11 set assists.
The second set was full of runs. The Knights used a three-point run to take the lead at 7-6 and the Patriots used three runs of their own to establish a big lead at 17-12. Mason tallied six blocks over the course of the set which included five block assists from
Sam Peters and four from Zahariev. The set ended 25-19.
The final set would go back and forth until the end. The Patriots built a four-point lead at 19-15 and made it look like the game was over. The Knights then gathered and tied it at 19. Mason refused to let the set go and took the last six of eight points. Hoyos smashed and ace and a kill to gather the Patriots last two points (25-21).
