FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason baseball team swept a doubleheader from Cornell, 10-5 and 4-3, on Saturday at Spuhler Field in Fairfax, Va.
The Patriots have now won six straight games.
Senior third baseman

Connor Dykstra and sophomore shortstop
Carsen Pracht each drove in three runs over the two games.
In game two, freshman reliever
Owen Stewart earned his first NCAA win and classmate
Ryan Edmonds notched his first college save.
GAME ONE
Mason (9-8) jumped out to a 6-0 lead over Cornell (0-10) in the first three innings.
In the first, Trimble and senior second baseman
Brett Stallings each walked against Big Red junior starter Von Baker. With one out, freshman left fielder
James Quinn-Irons drove in Trimble with a ground out to put the Patriots in front, 1-0.
Mason has scored the first run in six of the last seven games.
In the home half of the second, sophomore first baseman
Reece Woody led off with a single and Dykstra followed with a RBI-double to the gap in right-center to make it 2-0. After Dykstra moved to third on a wild pitch, Pracht ripped a single through the left side with Dykstra coasting home for a 3-0 Mason lead.
In the third, junior center fielder
Jordan Smith was hit by a pitch and stole second to start the inning. Quinn-Irons delivered with a single to left to knock in Smith to increase the advantage to 4-0.
Graduate student designated hitter
Ryan Archibald then belted a two-run home run over the left field fence to extend the lead to 6-0. It was his third round-tripper of the season and second in as many games.
Cornell sent eight batters to the plate in the top of the fourth and scored four runs on four hits against Mason graduate student starter
Ben Shields.
Big Red senior third baseman Joe Hollerbach had the big hit with a three-run home run and freshman shortstop T.J. Swidorski plated a run with a RBI-single.
The Patriots got two runs back in the bottom of the fifth against Cornell freshman reliever Carson Mayfield. With two outs, Woody doubled to left and Dykstra stepped in and smashed his first home run of the season to left-center to make it an 8-4 game.
The Big Red plated their final run of the game in the top of the seventh, an unearned run on a RBI-single off of Patriots graduate student
Mason Posey.
Mason added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth. Pracht drove in a run with a single and Trimble plated another with a sacrifice bunt for the 10-5 final score.
For the Patriots, Shields (4-0) allowed four runs, three earned, on four hits and struck out eight in 5.0 innings to earn the win. Posey gave up one run on one hit in 2.0 innings. Graduate student Christina Mracna struck out the side in the eighth and freshman
Michael Salina fanned two in the ninth.
For the Big Red, Baker (0-2) allowed six runs on six hits in 2.0 innings and took the loss. Mayfield surrendered four runs on three hits and struck out five in 5.1 innings. Sophomore Ryan Porter retired two batters to end the eighth.
Dykstra went 2-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored, Pracht was 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored and Trimble reached base twice, drove in a run and scored a run.
GAME TWO
Mason (10-8) took the lead against Cornell (0-11) freshman starter Kyle Ethan Hamill in the bottom of the second.
Quinn-Irons led off with a single and went to second on a failed pickoff attempt. With one out, Dykstra doubled to put runners on the corners and Pracht drove in Quinn-Irons with a ground out to put the Patriots up, 1-0.
Cornell drew even in the top of the fourth against Mason sophomore starter
Chad Gartland when senior left fielder Wils Guy hit a solo home run over the left field fence.
The Big Red took the lead in the fifth. Sophomore designated hitter Kyle Musser walked, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch. He scored on a sacrifice fly to give Cornell the edge, 2-1.
The Patriots responded in the home half of the fifth. Freshman catcher
Bennett Shealor led off with a double and scored on a single by Trimble to tie the game, 2-2.
Mason regained the advantage in the seventh against Cornell senior reliever Spencer Edwards. Pracht was hit by a pitch and Shealor walked. After both runners advanced into scoring position on a fly out, Trimble lifted a sacrifice fly to center with Pracht crossing the plate for a 3-2 lead.
The teams traded runs in the eighth.
Cornell tied the game against Mason freshman
Owen Stewart. With the bases loaded, sophomore John Quinlan drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to right field to even the score, 3-3.
Smith started the Patriots rally when he led off with a single, stole second and moved to third on a ground out. Woody knocked in the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly for the 4-3 final.
Mason freshman reliever
Ryan Edmonds picked up his first collegiate save when he got Cornell to ground into a game-ending double play.
For the Patriots, Gartland allowed two runs on two hits with five strikeouts in 7.0 innings in the no-decision. Stewart (1-1) gave up one unearned run in 1.0 inning to earn his first collegiate win. Edmonds closed it out in the ninth to notch his first NCAA save.
For the Big Red, Hamill allowed two runs on seven hits in 6.0 innings in a no-decision. Edwards (0-2) gave up two runs on one hit in 2.0 innings and took the loss.
Trimble went 1-for-3 with two RBI, while Woody and Pracht each drove in a run for the Patriots.
The Patriots and Big Red wrap up the series on Sunday with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. at Spuhler Field.
