HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The George Mason University men's tennis team nearly pulled off a nail-biting win for the second-straight day but could not quite get over the hump in a 4-3 setback to Auburn Montgomery on Thursday morning in South Carolina.
Mason dropped the doubles point to kick off the match, but evened it up after a victory by
Hayden Postin at No. 6 (6-2, 6-0).
The Patriots took a 2-1 lead after senior
Rithik Sardana's second singles win in as many days at No. 1. He took down Guariente of AUM, 6-2, 6-2.
The Warhawks won the next two matches to go up 3-2, then took a victory at No. 5 to wrap up the match.
Mason's third point came courtesy of sophomore
Niza Simunyola, who won 7-5, 6-4 at No. 4.
The Patriots wrap up PTR Springest on Friday by wrapping up a match against Saint Francis (Pa.) that was postponed due to weather.
