FAIRFAX, Va. – The Patriots finished off the Saints in four sets at the RAC Saturday evening to get their fifth straight win.
The Patriots dropped the first set but were rejuvenated by a new lineup to take the next three. The sets finished as follows, 23-25, 25-18, 25-21 and 28-26.
The Patriots started off strong leading 12-8 and then at 17-13. Limestone would steal the next eight out of nine points and take the set at 25-23.
In the second, the Patriots took an early lead at 5-2 thanks to two blocks and three kills. The Saints didn't go away, and the game was tied 16-16. Mason was determined to finish the set strong and snatched nine out of the last 11 points including a 5-0 run to seal it 25-18.
Chey Cooper had eight kills, seven receptions and two digs in the set.
Just like the first and second, a late run would play a major role in who would win the set. Limestone led at 15-14 when the Patriots went on a 5-0 run.
Sam Peters had an ace and a kill as the Patriots would hold the lead to close out the set 25-21.
The fourth set went down to the wire. Limestone only took the lead once, but it was for the set at 25-24. Mason held them off and closed out the set with a block by
Chey Cooper and
Eamonn Testerman (28-26).
