FAIRFAX, Va. – The Patriots took care of the Limestone University Saints in straights sets tonight at the RAC (25-19, 25-22, 25-21).
The Patriots were able to control the game at the net with a total of nine blocks, while the Saints had four. Aces were important also, as
Jack Bolz and
Omar Hoyos each had three and the Saints two.
The Patriots started the game off slow, falling behind 15-10 in the first. After the media timeout, they would rally and take the next four points thanks to a kill, two blocks and an ace. Bolz would hit back-to-back aces with Mason closing out the set on a 15-4 run to end it 25-19.
In the second, the rallies went back and forth, keeping the game within a tight margin. The Saints led 19-17 when the Patriots used a five-point surge to steal the set. During that run, Hoyos tallied two aces and Liam Frech and Bolz both would smash a kill. Hoyos sealed the set with a kill (25-22).
The third set had a similar feel as the first two, as both teams battled early on. The Saints took a 14-12 lead only to see it squandered by five straight Patriot points (17-14). Mason would retain the lead the rest of the set and
Lucas Little would clinch the game with a kill (25-21).
Mason shared the wealth in the third, as six different players recorded a kill and four of them had multiple.
Georgi Zahariev had 10 set assists and three players notched a block.
