FAIRFAX, Va. – The Patriots shocked #14 Lewis in dominating fashion by a score of 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-19) in the RAC on Friday evening.
Unlike any other game thus far, the Patriots had control in every single set. In the first set, they started ahead 2-0 and then 7-3.
Jack Bolz and
Liam French both tallied five kills, and although the Flyers tied it at 12, the Patriots would go on a 13-6 run to end the set 25-18.
The second set was tight score wise, but the Patriots never let the Flyers win more than two points at once. The Patriots took the lead at 7-6 and they never relinquished it the rest of the set. This was in big part due to their three aces and two and a half blocks. The Patriots didn't tally a single receiving error while the Flyers had three.
In the third, both teams went back and forth winning a point or two with the Flyers leading by one at 12-11. The Patriots would go on a 6-0 run thanks to two blocks, two kills, an ace and attacking error on the Flyers. This would put the game out of reach and
Jack Bolz smashed an ace to earn the game-ending point.
"We finally got the monkey off our back tonight," said Coach Hosack. "I was really happy with the way we served, and our arms got us out of trouble a few times tonight. I knew they had it in them, we just had to find it."
